ill Tracy Biden, born June 3, 1951, in Hammonton, New Jersey, is an American educator, author, and former First Lady of the United States (2021–2025). With a career spanning over four decades, she taught English and writing at high schools, psychiatric hospitals, and community colleges, notably at Northern Virginia Community College from 2009 to 2025. Jill holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware, two Master’s degrees (University of Delaware and West Chester University), and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware (2007). As First Lady, she championed education, military families, and cancer research, continuing her teaching role, a historic first. She authored the memoir Where the Light Enters (2019) and two children’s books, Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops (2012) and Joey: The Story of Joe Biden (2020).

Raised in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, in an Italian-American family, Jill was the eldest of five daughters to Donald and Bonny Jean Jacobs. She married Joe Biden in 1977, becoming stepmother to his sons, Beau and Hunter, and mother to their daughter, Ashley. Previously married to Bill Stevenson (1970–1975), Jill met Joe in 1975 on a blind date. Together, they navigated personal tragedies, including the 1972 loss of Joe’s first wife and daughter, and Beau’s death in 2015. Residing in Wilmington, Delaware, Jill remains active in education and advocacy, including co-founding the Biden Breast Health Initiative and Book Buddies program.
